Pretty meh ending. Not super satisfying. But good nonetheless.
I hate it when a series ends with a cliff hanger towards the next. this was a rather well done anime that i enjoyed, pretty not so satisfying end fight though.
I guess I'll have to give the new movie a try now.
Overall, it was an okay series. A little over-hyped for its own good though. At least the ending more or less works, considering the series as a whole. Thankfully its short nature and gorgeous animation save it from being mediocre.
I thought it was a perfectly good ending. They didn't even have to make the movie, it was fine as it was. But, since they did make the movie, I'm now eagerly awaiting a third season.
Pretty good series overall. The scripting needed to be reworked a little. Samuel L. Jackson did a pretty good job and fitted the character perfectly. I look forward to seeing the movie! (^.^)
Well, it was good! I was not expecting some super satisfying ending anyway, I came into this series knowing what to expect.
Afro Samurai excels in its art work: fantastic animation, music and voice acting. This is the kind of production values I want in my anime. The story is pretty generic, but you watch this for the raw entertainment value!
lol that was a very intriguing ending there, and his fight wasn't nearly long enough against no. 1 but I'm VERY angry at the fact that Ninja Ninja died =='. In those 5 episodes Ninja Ninja grabbed my affection :(.

Decent ending the final battle was quite interesting but I didn't really enjoyed this 5 episode anime to much still nice complete plot 7/10 Up to the Movie Sequel!
Huh? Where is the cool fight that was supposed to .. rival Samurai Champloo? In that era, cellphones? Robots? I felt like.. it didn't flesh out much, rushed. Main point wasn't conveyed, feelings weren't reached, fights aren't even that good, all in all so bad
Can anyone tell me what the letter after the red sun on the head band means? not the one that stands for number 1 or 2 but the letter at the end, I know what the headband means I just dont know what the letter translates to? please tell! :)
Honestly, I thought the series was alright but tries a bit too hard with the violence. The music/OST is top notch though and I liked the character relationships. But I feel the story is a bit blend or maybe too straight forward without any dynamics.

It might have been cliche, the ep 3 feel like a regular holllywood action film. But the action was awesome, i don't like gore but new anime should be more like this and less romantic and genetic comedies( some are fun but after a while they all seem the same). 8/10 it would be a 9 is the last boss actually tried to put up a fight
Just finished the series. I liked it more at the beginning then I did finishing the series. Not much character development and Afro was 2d, not to mention the whole supernatural take with Justice being able to regenerate was kinda ehh and Ginno wearing a teddy bear mask or whatever...Idk man. I'd give it a 6/10. Definitely a one time watch
Great popcorn material. The first episode was rather sad - watching your father's head get cut off must be really disturbing, which set Afro on a quest of revenge.
Afro's a pretty badass character. Only speaks when necessary, and cares only about one thing: to avenge his father. I like how instead of caring about his friends and his master, he just wants to avenge his father and have nothing slow him down. That's the way to go - just take revenge and be done with it. Let no psychological crap slow you down. Being voiced by none other than Samuel L. Jackson adds nothing but total badassery to the Afro Samurai. The sidekick-wannabe was a funny guy, though he eventually proved his worth by sacrificing himself for Afro's sake.
I don't really have anything more to say. While the story was simplistic, it was pretty fun to watch. Samurais, lotsa blood, badassery, sex... perfect popcorn material.
Ive heard Shigurui has some pretty disgusting scenes, scenes that make Afro samurai look PG. Not saying you shouldn't watch it, but just be warned its pretty gross from what Ive been told heh.
But anyway, this was a decent enough series. The animation was top notch and very fun to watch. Most of the fights were pretty good ( the one against terminator Afro being my favorite). But some were too long and some were too short (Jinno and Justice). This series really could have benefited from at least one more episode imo.
But overall I enjoyed this series for what it was, a short action anime with great animation and plenty of entertaining gory fights.
Completely forgot that Gino's battle was that long. I actually remember when I first watched this I thought Justice's battle was boring but now I wish it was longer. I can't remember if this is just a token "the battle goes on" ending or if it really plays into the movie somehow. I'll probably be watching that again soon since my favorite Afro battle is in it.
Well, it was good to watch this again with a fresh perspective. I'd say overall it had some pretty cool action sequences and the brutal style fit the morbid atmosphere albeit it was over the top on the gore fest at times. A simple story of revenge that did a good job portraying the depressing path of carnage and bloodlust that Afro and every other headband wearer had to follow. It was a bit hard to watch at times though with the cheesy dialogue and some of the fights were a bit boring, which isn't good for something that specializes in action. Luckily Samuel L. Jackson made up for that with his Ninja Ninja routine. Rest in peace illusion.
6/10, this really goes to show how much my preferences have transformed in comparison to back when I was obsessed with action anime and thought this was one of the coolest things ever.
People complain about the story but it's only a 5 ep anime, hard to have much of a story. Even then it still had more of a story than FLCL xD It was fun to watch for the visuals and RZA's soundtrack. I heard the movie is better than the show, so I'll check it out.
Even with regeneration and god-like abilities, the boss was WAY TOO EASY! Even in his injured state, Afro can easily dice the hell out of him!
This short series was interesting. The art style and the animation were amazing (similar to Samurai Champloo) The story was decent and the character was badass, but not too interesting... Seems like Jinno will be a rival for Afro from here on out.
The fights were intense, violent and beautifully animated. Quick, and the backstory was interwoven nicely. Fight with Gino was pretty rad, and I must say it was better than the final boss.
Jinno didn't really die after so many years later, revenge can really give a person a strong will to live for real. It looks like number one didn't really die too, I'm not surprised the guy did hold that title since Afro's dad time. I must say the fight with Jinno was emotional with all the flashbacks and all, while the fight with number one was really violent.
Overall it was good and the animation was really good, it had lots of violence and meaningless sex though. Too bad the ninja illusion guy died he was kinda fun, but I wanted his back story.
7/10.
